Location
• Where is it?
• Why is it there?
• What are the consequences of its being there?
- absolute - tells exactly where it is (coordinates - latitude and longitude)
- relative - where it is in relation to other countries, continents, landforms...
Place
• What’s it like there?
- official name of country, size, population
- climate, landforms, vegetation, resources, plants, animals...
- customs, language, religion, ethnic groups, architecture, recreation....
Human - Environment Interaction
• What’s the relationship between humans and the environment?
• How have we changed and adapted to our surroundings?
- humans affect environment
- environment has an impact on humans
- forms of energy, trade, jobs, economic and environmental issues...
Movement
• How and why are places connected to one another?
• How are places shaped by the constant moving of people, ideas, materials and physical
systems?
- migration of people from one place to another, transportation systems
- movement of manufactured goods, ideas, weather system
- methods used to communicate ideas and information
- ways in which traditions and customs are passed from one generation to the next
Regions
• How/why is one area similar to another? How do they differ?
- unifying characteristics, varying from local to global
- political structures/ major tourist attractions….
